Horticulture: Gardening & Landscaping
The gardening and landscaping industry is diverse and offers a wide range of creative and stimulating jobs.
The industry has traditionally been divided into two sectors, amenity horticulture and commercial horticulture.
Amenity horticulture focuses on how land is used and managed for public benefit ranging from hostorical/botanical gardens and landscape management to country parks and recreation.
Within commercial horticulture, the main areas of employment are the intensive growing of food crops, ornamental crops, hardy nursery stock production, as well as floriculture and retailing.
Writtle College has a wealth of outdoor and indoor resources which are used extensively in the teaching of horticulture and landscaping, including landscaped gardens, large tropical and temperate glasshouses and a large amenity building which enables experimental designs to be constructed indoors.
